Text in French. Red full leather binding. Dark (perhaps formerly gilt) stamped lettering on front. No lettering to spine. Marbled endpapers. Covers have some darkening, slightly bumped tips, slight edge wear, possible fading to lettering on front, and faint dampstaining along edges, else clean and intact, binding tight. Pages have light age toning throughout and occasional faint spots of dampstaining and small stains, else clean and intact. 16 black-and-white engraved plates and in-text illustrations included. SIGNED by the author, and inscribed to Paul-Armand Challemel-Lacour: "À monsieur Challemel-Lacour, Président du sénat.  Respectueux hommage de l'auteur, L.
