Theodore Hook (1788-1841) was an English author, composer, and civil servant on Mauritius. Hook is perhaps best-known for his witticisms and practical jokes. This collection includes a number of his essays, poetry, and other written works. Among them are "The Ramsbottom Papers," "Political Songs and Squibs," "Tentamen; or, an Essay Towards the History of Whittington, Some Time Lord Mayor of London," "Miscellanies, in Verse and Prose," and "Anecdotes, Hoaxes, and Jests."
